Cynthia Macri, M.D. (CAPT MC USN-Retired)
Dr. Macri, is a retired U.S. Navy Captain, Medical Corps with over 35 years of active military service. She served as the Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations for Diversity during her last tour of duty; directly advising the CNO on matters of diversity and inclusion. She used her strategic abilities to streamline and optimize a diverse workforce of over 300,000 active duty, reserve, and civilian personnel. She also led the Navy's effort to improve Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) course and career awareness.
As part of her goal to ensure that all students are given opportunity and exposure to STEM careers, Capt. Macri specializes in mentoring students of diverse backgrounds to promote science/medicine careers among disadvantaged high school students and provide them with a bridge into the health professions career field.
She is a native of Hawaii, and a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine and Lehigh University. She’s a Board-Certified OB/GYN. In addition to Obstetrics & Gynecology, her specialties include Gynecologic Oncology.
Capt. Macri serves as Vice President for Education and Integrative Health with LIFT A VET, an organization that assists veterans, their family, and their communities through physical, social, and professional support. She assists with the medical needs of veterans in LIFT A VET’s mission to assist veterans and their families through the challenges, they face in life due to their military service.
In 2016, she was appointed by Governor Hogan to represent Congressional District 8 on the Maryland State Veterans Commission, and the Governor’s Commission on Suicide Prevention.
On a more personal note, Capt. Macri is also a competitive soccer player and won the 2019 U.S. Adult Amateur Soccer Association national championships representing Camp Springs, Maryland.
